Can Smartphone Gaming Really Compete in the Future?

Gamers have never had it so good. Thanks to ongoing technology-based advancements, the array of options in the space are quite remarkable when you think about it.

Not only can gamers buy chairs specifically designed for gaming and a variety of accessories, but alongside the usual console devices, there are some popular handheld gaming options too. Gaming on a smartphone is one of them.

In fact, smartphone gaming has come on leaps and bounds in recent times. The innovation shown in this space has led to some quite spectacular mobile phone devices from well-established brands such as Apple and Samsung, alongside a range of gaming-specific phones produced by the likes of Nubia and OnePlus. The games have improved accordingly also.

For some gamers, smartphone gaming will never suffice. For others, though, the appeal of gaming on a mobile phone device is growing.

This all comes despite the release of highly sophisticated and hugely powerful consoles like the PlayStation 5. Evidence suggests that there is an appetite for gaming on a smartphone.

Can Smartphone Gaming Really Compete in the Future

Here is a look at some key reasons as to why this is the case.

Casual, on the go gaming

Smartphone gaming is a convenient entertainment option for people. We all have access to the powerful smartphone devices of today, therefore opening up an extensive selection of games to people in the process.

These games are generally designed to be picked up and put down throughout the day, they can be downloaded within seconds, and they provide the type of entertainment that many other titles simply don’t. When compared to console gaming, for example, it’s far easier to session a smartphone release.

Console gaming requires far more time and attention. The games available on a console tend to be more detailed, which can result in casual gamers being put off, and they’re generally harder to grasp.

All of these factors can contribute towards an all-around daunting experience, whereas smartphone gaming tends to serve up a range of games that can be dipped in and out of throughout the day.

There is a game for everyone, too, with the likes of the Buffalo Blitz slot game proving to be extremely popular at the moment, alongside titles like Among Us and Genshin Impact.

Throw in puzzle games and brain teasers which are regularly downloaded by older gamers, and there is a release out there for everyone. The same can’t necessarily be said of other gaming devices which generally cater towards diehard, avid gamers.

Better games than ever before

Thanks to the aforementioned advancements made in our mobile phone devices, the games have improved dramatically as a result.

Gone are the days when Snake and Tetris dominated the space, instead of being replaced by augmented reality hits like Pokemon Go and a range of console-quality titles, which are now finding their way onto mobile.

For example, the likes of PUBG and Fortnite have successfully transitioned over to mobile and continue to pull in the crowds.

Thanks to the improvements made in our smartphones, these types of games are expected to become a regular go-to option for mobile gamers as developers continue to expand their offerings into the mobile space.

On top of this, these types of releases can be elevated further with the addition of a VR headset or a joystick.

Affordable gaming for all

Console gaming isn’t cheap. Once you buy a console and purchase a few games, you’ll certainly feel a hole in your bank account. Smartphone gaming, on the other hand, is cheap or completely free.

Some games have in-app purchases, but on the whole, most popular titles are free or incredibly cheap.
